the bog
the mirror
a stones round throw
you stepped on the hard wood floor
you settled an argument with yourself
you decided it was enough
but you were wrong
the grass was cut with an old rusty lawnmower
in the heat of the summer
the police shined their light in the front window
in the morning your sister found an egg on the front lawn
the neighbors never new
it was like a scene in a movie:
you ran
and were chased
hid in the garage for twenty minutes
you got in a fight with
yourself
you chased the guinea pigs across the lawn,
they lived under the house
later you moved to your grandmother's house
she watched channel 4 all day long
always at five o'clock she asked you to make her a highball-
Seagrams and ginger ale
for breakfast every day she made Pepperidge Farm bread toasted with blackberry jam and black coffee
your uncle let him use his old VW bus and later you started working at a photo lab
printing picures of brides and grooms.
