Eighteen
a '63 Ford Fairlane
With a straight six
You could stand next to the engine
Four door sedan, battleship grey
The color had worn off from the sun
The ceiling inside was a Costplus batik my sister had sewn
I put Blaupunkt speakers on a wooden board over the back seat
And covered them also with a thin batik
I bolted a Jensen cassette player to the floor
Under the drivers side of the front bench seat
$150 dollar music system
In a car my dad had bought for $25
Shelter from the Storm- Dylan
Old and In The Way
Allman Brothers
Leonard Cohen
And the Dead
I painted white racing stripes on the hood as a joke
Suspension was shot
Almost a low rider
But it sure took corners well
I painted a stencil of John Lennon screaming
From a photo on the back of Let It Be
On the drivers side door
Orton and I drove it to Oregon
Camping on the coast
Rainy and stoned
Then we got stuck on a beach
