 A veteran of the Chesapeake Oyster Wars.

The Governor of Virginia rose in public estimation

after seizing seven oyster dredgers boats and arresting 

41 oyster pirates.

  Later he tried it again and brought newspapermen to witness and report. But the Governor got outraced by a sailboat worked by three plucky lasses- the wife and daughters of the boats captain. They escaped the Governors attempt and the reporters ate it up, much to the Governor's dismay and chagrin.

He'd become a laughing stock.
