sometimes the forest

what was

    there was a fairy circle
an old hat was found

but he went back to playing basketball

           sometimes a zip line

in a large evergreen

               I climbed
another tree

        way up

way, way up

          in tennis shoes

later I hung out in a cardboard box that the refrigerator came in

          there were no guns

   you could stand on the step of a vw bug and hold on to the window rim

  you could ride outside the car that way

as long as they didn't go fast

                   there were tv reporters in the war
 
       right in the middle of the war


                  sometimes famous people would get shot and killed

   often it seemed

             we went to Florida to see Uncle Carl and Aunt Gladys

they were old

                and I got sick on the fishing boat

years later I learned they didn't drink

     and G'Don never saw a picture of his grand-dad

we don't even have screen doors out here
